Heritage Photographer in Normandy

Normandy is one of the French regions with the richest cultural heritage and the most visitors in the world. Photo911 works with cultural institutions, local governments, publishers, and tourism bureaus to showcase this exceptional heritage through photography: D-Day landing sites, Romanesque and Gothic abbeys, medieval castles, coastal landscapes, and wooded countryside.

Normandy's Cultural Heritage: A Photographic Responsibility

Photographing Normandy’s heritage means preserving a collective memory of exceptional significance. The D-Day beaches, the military cemeteries, the Caen Memorial, the Abbaye-aux-Hommes, Mont-Saint-Michel, and the castle of William the Conqueror: these sites attract millions of visitors each year and are the subject of intense institutional and editorial demand for photography.

Photo911 approaches these assignments with the rigor and respect they demand. Our 20-year presence in Normandy has given us an intimate understanding of the sites, their access constraints, their characteristic lighting conditions throughout the seasons and at different times of day, and the expectations of the institutions responsible for them.

Our Vision

The D-Day Landing Sites: A Major Area of Specialization

Calvados is home to the main memorial sites commemorating the June 1944 D-Day landings. Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, Pointe du Hoc, the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, the German Cemetery at La Cambe, the Overlord Museum, and the Caen Memorial: these are all sites that are the subject of regular photography commissions from memorial institutions, local governments, and publishers.

Photo911 produces these photo essays with respect for the locations and their history, creating images that are both documentary in nature and emotionally evocative—images suitable for demanding editorial projects, traveling exhibitions, or institutional communication campaigns.

Norman Abbeys, Castles, and Historic Monuments

Our heritage portfolio encompasses all types of Norman heritage:

  • Romanesque and Gothic abbeys: Abbaye-aux-Hommes and Abbaye-aux-Dames in Caen, Bec-Hellouin Abbey, Jumièges Abbey
  • Medieval castles and manor houses: Falaise Castle, Arques Castle, manor houses of the Pays d’Auge
  • Civil and Religious Architecture: the cathedrals of Rouen, Bayeux, Coutances, and Lisieux
  • Industrial and Maritime Heritage: the medieval town of Honfleur, the port of Dieppe, Norman windmills
  • Designated Landscapes and Natural Sites: Étretat, the Alabâtre Cliffs, the Cotentin Marshes

The Phase One 100MP Sensor: A Tool for Preserving Cultural Heritage

Heritage photography requires images with unmatched resolution and color accuracy. Photo911’s 100-megapixel Phase One sensor meets this requirement: it captures every architectural detail, every stone texture, and every nuance of low-angle light with a precision that conventional full-frame cameras cannot match.
